Podcasting is an online audio substance that is sent via RSS feeds. Many people equate pod casting to radio on demand. However, in reality, it gives more than what a radio is programmed to give. It is a type of online audio delivery. It is now used for online traffic generation for your website.
RSS feeds are designed to easily distribute files, that can then be redistributed and shared by the users who download them. It would be close to impossible for a podcaster to charge for their content. Either the podcaster would have a small circle of people who enjoy the feed, and very few who would want to pay for it, or be very popular, as Stern is, and have the problem of paying customers possibly redistributing the content so others won't need to pay.
A podcast is essentially a collection of audio files, available for download and aggregation - usually automatically - somewhat similar to radio shows. They are indeed broadcast, but the only difference is that they are not "live" and "interactive". (Though some live podcasts have appeared, and we will cover them shortly.)
To give you a few examples, using podcasting, you can do product reviews, interviews with your peers, express your ideas and trends on a topic, give your opinion, promote a cause, and more. What you can do with podcasting is limited to your imagination only. Nobody is looking over your shoulder and telling you what to say and not to say. You have the ultimate control of your podcasting contents.
When linking to the audio file, use important keywords in the URL and in the audio filename. If you use multiple words to link to a file, hyphenate them. Search engine spiders take notice of file names, so rather than using a random numerical sequence, give the audio file a meaningful filename that relates to the content contained in it.
Next you must create a syndication feed (often called RSS) which is essentially a description of your content and a link that points to the content. Your description should be kept as precise and enticing as possible, you are selling yourself here to many possible listeners, and most people will read this before ever deciding whether or not to download your content. There are many free services available for creating your RSS feed; most notably there is FeedBurner.com.
A good audio quality must be paired with a good audio editor. So, make sure that your software is equipped with these features. Furthermore, be aware of the output format. MP3 format is most compatible for audio while MPEG format is most suitable for videos. These output formats are manageable in terms of size and need not be converted or compressed. Creating video podcasts are quite simple but it will be a great time saver if you gather tips on video podcasting first.
Small to mid-sized businesses are known for being early adopters of cutting-edge technology because they are generally more willing to try new things that can help them gain a competitive advantage. Business podcasting is an inexpensive, effective means for these companies to get their messages in front of potential customers, globally. And because listeners have a vested interest - otherwise they wouldn't subscribe to the show - delivering specific information so precisely to target audiences yields a higher ROI than any direct marketing or advertising campaign.
