how to use pen knifes

Pocket Knives can be a safe and handy tool to carry if properly used and handled. First things first when it comes to purchasing pocket knives, be sure they are made of quality steel and able to hold a sharp edge. I'm sure most of us have heard that if a tool is meant to be sharp it is safer sharp rather than dull. So remember, dull pocket knives are dangerous tools.

In this article, I will list what I feel are important tips to safely handle and use pocket knives. I believe that if these tips below are followed, anyone of most any age will be able to safely use and handle pocket knives.

Here are my tips on safely using and handling pocket knives:

* Keep your pocket knives clean and sharp - remember dull pocket knives are dangerous; keeping them clean will help preserve the edge. Dull pocket knives tend to slide when you want them to cut and the usually cut when it stops sliding, which tends to be your hand or somewhere else you didn't want cut.

* You should learn how to properly hone and sharpen your pocket knives - This will help you keep a safe sharp edge on all your pocket knives. You should use a fine grit stone and a small amount of honing oil or water.

* Pocket knives are tools, not toys - always handle sharp instruments with care, sharp tools can be safe tools with proper handling.

* Always hold the pocket knives firmly by the handle - this will give you a good grip of the pocket knife.

* You should never press on the blades of pocket knives while cutting - this could cause the knife to twist and cut your hand. Pocket knives without a locking blade are much more dangerous if you press on the blade as they can close on your finger causing a deep cut.

* Never use pocket knives to pry with or as a screwdriver - Always use tools for the purpose they are designed and made for, pocket knives are made for cutting!

* While using pocket knives, always cut away from your body - This is an extra safety measure in case there is an unexpected slip while cutting.

* Close pocket knives while passing to others - if you can't close it then lay it down so it can then be picked up by the other person.

* Keep pocket knives closed when not in use - this will help with safety and keeping your pocket knives clean. Knife sheaths will help in safety and in keeping pocket knives clean.

* Always instruct children and first time users in proper handling of pocket knives - These tips used with common sense should aid in safety.

Pocket knives can be a safe and handy tool when proper handling and care are known and implemented by the user. Find pocket knives that suit your needs and one that feels comfortable in your grip. Quality pocket knives aren't always expensive, many manufacturers offer good quality pocket knives at affordable prices. If you keep your pocket knives clean and sharp they will give many years of use
