Always resilient Patrick manhandles Wilks at UFC 120

Claude Patrick's path from Canada to big time MMA could never be described as easy but that's about the only way to break down his fight today at UFC 120 against James Wilks. Patrick threw Wilks around the Octagon like a ragdoll and once the fight hit the deck, the Brit couldn't find a way to get himself off his back. Patrick did some nice damage on the ground and rolled to a unanimous decision victory, 30-27 on all cards, at UFC 120 in London.

Wilks' takedown defense was lacking in all three rounds. He hit the floor with 3:54 left in the first, 3:00 left in the second and 4:04 left in the final round. Patrick would stand from time-to-time to reset but then easily jumped back down into Wilks' guard. By the end of the fight, Wilks had been on his back for roughly 11-of-15 minutes and had a cut under his right eye.

It's still hard to tell if Patrick (13-1, 2-0 UFC) has a chance to be an elite fighter in the UFC's welterweight division but that's only because we don't know how good Wilks is.

Wilks, the 170-pound champ from Season 9 of "The Ultimate Fighter" failed to impress again. Wilks (7-4, 2-2 UFC) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt but lacks great takedowns and his striking is even less dangerous.

What we do know about Patrick is that he's going to work hard to overcome any obstacles. He hails from an area in Canada where MMA was banned until recently. His career picked up steam in 2005 as he traveled all over Canada and the U.S. to train and fight. After tearing an ACL in a fight, Patrick was sidelined for all of 2007 but he's come back strong since the injury with seven straight wins.
