K-1 Final 16 Pairings Include Andrei Arlovski vs. Raul Catinas

Filed under: K1K-1 has released the full fight card for the October 2 World Grand Prix Final 16 event, and the biggest news for American fans is that former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is in the mix, taking on the 22-year-old Romanian Raul Catinas in a tournament bout.

Arlovski's participation in the event was first revealed by K-1 announcer Michael Schiavello, who will call the Final 16 on English-language broadcasts around the world, including on HDNet in the United States. The news that Arlovski is in the Final 16, and that he's got a beatable opponent in Catinas, means there's a real chance he'll return to the K-1 ring for the World Grand Prix Final in December.

After whooping Evander Holyfield, Manny Pacquiao could be next for Telegraph challenge

As one of my esteemed colleagues at the Telegraph Media Group has already pointed out, I will be boring people for years about the day I whooped Evander Holyfield in a three-pronged challenge.
Beating the great two weight-world champion, and four-timeworld heavyweight champion, at cards (namely, snap) and stone-paper-scissors willremain as one of the highlights of [...]

Ruediger puts aside training Paris to face 'Tellys'

Gabe Ruediger lives another day in the UFC. The heel from Season 5 of "The Ultimate Fighter" and a quick loser against Joe Lauzon in his return to the promotion after a  near three-year absence, Ruediger will get another shot on the Octagon against Paul "Tellys" Kelly at UFC 123 in late November, according to MMAWeekly.com.Ruediger was steamrolled by Lauzon in less than two minutes at UFC 118. Oddly enough, he popped up on the gossip website scene with a bizarre video where he was "training" Paris Hilton. One would assume this is a must-win fight for Ruediger (17-6, 0-2 UFC). He took the Lauzon fight on short notice but this time he's got plenty of notice for a full training camp. Kelly (10-3, 4-3 UFC) is in need of a win as well after dropping two of his last three fights.  Ruediger's reputation took a beating from his appearance on TUF 5. He was pictured eating and relaxing before his first fight and then couldn't make weight. He was quite the drama queen and quit before ever making it to the scale. UFC Dana White booted him from the TUF house and dismissed him from the show. The UFC elected not to give Ruediger an official fight after the season was over.  Tip on Hilton video via Fightlinker

Pearson works with Edgar to train for Miller and beyond

Cole Miller is concentrating on his big fight tomorrow night against Ross Pearson. Pearson wants to win at Ultimate Fight Night 22 but he may have a bigger goal in mind. The Brit, who won Season 9 of "The Ultimate Fighter", is speding more time in the United States, training his wrestling and takedown defense. He did so recently with a visit to work with UFC lightweight champ Frank Edgar and Ricardo Almeida."I have to come out here to the States to train with these
guys, or I have to bring those guys to my gym back in England, so either way,
I’m going to be learning the wrestling," Pearson told Eliot Olshansky from Bleacher Report. "I’m not stupid to think that I’m going
to beat these guys just by watching, you know? You need to get in there and
train with these guys, develop your game." Pearson, 25, admits that seeing fellow Brits Dan Hardy and Paul Daley get manhandled by good MMA wrestlers, spurred his trip to the U.S.  "It opened me eyes a lot to get the chance to go out train with
Frankie Edgar and the Rutgers wrestling team, just to see what I needed to
improve, and what I needed to do to get to the level of these guys. I’m never
going to learn it back at home, where none of the guys are advanced masters of
wrestling, you know?" Miller isn't a traditional wrestler but he's very good grappler and submission artist."Definitely, the biggest challenge for me is if the fight goes to the floor. Cole
is just really good and talented on the floor. He’s pulled off some slick
submissions. He’s very active; he doesn’t rest like some of the guys you see. He
goes in there to finish fights, which I admire."This is definitely striker versus grappler. Miller's striking is solid and his length can give other lightweights trouble, but he'll want to get this fight to the ground. In this video, Miller says he was a little confused by Pearson's trip to work with wrestlers like Edgar. He speculated that thinks maybe Pearson thinks he's going to smash him and is prepping for the future (1:25 mark). Either way, it's a good move for Pearson to work in the U.S. He has a high ceiling and why shouldn't he work all elements of his game regardless of whether it perfectly matches his current opponent? Pearson and Miller meet int he first bout of the televised portion of UFN 22 on Spike. It should provide action. Pearson (11-3, 3-0 UFC) won Fight of the Night honors his last time while Miller (16-4, 5-2 UFC)  has only had one of his seven UFC fights go the distance.

Dana White: "Cro Cop" injured but cleared, en route to Indianapolis for UFC 119

ROSEMEAD, Calif. - UFC 119 headliner Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, in fact, did suffer an eye injury, but he's been cleared to fight, and next week's main-event bout with Frank Mir is good to go.

That's the word from UFC president Dana White, who today spoke to MMAjunkie.com about the injury.

On Friday White shot down Croatian news reports that an eye injury might force the heavyweight fighter out of the Sept. 25 headliner and called them "untrue." However, Filipovoc did suffer an injury - at the most inopportune time.
